November proved to be another great trip for LGLP in Puerto Penasco. We had a wide variety of churches represented by this months trip, which led to a lot of new relationships being formed within our group of volunteers. We also were short handed as several of our leaders weren’t able to attend. A special thanks goes out to everyone for putting in the extra effort to make sure everything still got done. Including a few all-star newbies who used their Spanish to help out throughout the day and even lead components of the kids ministry (see pictures below of the group teaching the kids songs in Spanish).

Our projects were constant with our normal routine which is based around three primary ministries. Kids ministry, construction ministry, and food ministry. All three focus on the relational aspect of engaging the families and individuals we work with. On the construction site the team was able to finish up a project that started last month, an additional room for three young girls who previously shared a room with their brother and father. Meanwhile, the kids ministry was focused around the theme of Jesus being a light to the world. Along with songs and crafts, the kids ate lunch and learned through a story and lesson plan. Finally in the afternoon we passed out roughly 100 bags of food to families in the invasion area, home to some of the most vulnerable of families (see pic below).

It was a great trip, and one in which a lot of blessings came out. We focused on two passages of scripture throughout the weekend: Matthew 5:14 and John 3:16-21, both of which kept our minds focused on our role in living out the Kingdom in tangible ways. Thanks again to everyone for your hard work! For those of you who would like to join us, our next trip is December 11th-13th!

Meet Ciara. I had the pleasure of doing just that recently as we spent an afternoon together taking some shots for her graduation announcements. Ciara is finishing her final semester at ASU’s downtown campus (yes same one I went too!), and she will leave with a degree in Tourism Development and Management. She was a blast to hang out with. We took advantage of some colorful backdrops, great weather, and a few wardrobe changes, all in an effort to get some great shots! A special thanks to Stephanie Horn for assisting on the shoot (also if you need any design work done check out Stephanie’s site, she does great work). Ciara it was great to meet you, I hope you had as much fun as we did and best of luck as you finish up at ASU!

The Complexity of Christ | Excerpt from James Stuart

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

I heard this quote today in a sermon, it stopped me in my tracks. I keep coming back to it and reading it over and over again. Such lofty implications on who we are and how we live our own lives!

“He was the meekest and lowliest of all the sons of men, yet he spoke of coming on the clouds of heaven with the glory of God.  He was so austere that evil spirits and demons cried out in terror at his coming, yet he was so genial and winsome and approachable that the little ones loved to play with him and nestle in his arms.  His presence at the innocent gayety of a village wedding was like the presence of sunshine.  No one was half so kind or compassionate to sinners, yet no one spoke such red-hot scorching words about sin.  A bruised reed he would not break, his own life was love, yet on one occasion he demanded of the Pharisees how they ever expected to escape the damnation of hell.  He was a dreamer of dreams and a seer of visions, yet for sheer stark realism he has all of our self-styled realists soundly beaten.  He was the servant of all, washing the disciples’ feet, yet masterfully he strode into the temple and the hucksters and money-changers fell over one another in their mad rush to get away from the fire they saw blazing in his eyes.  In the end he saved others, but at last himself he did not save.  There is nothing in history like the union of contrasts that confronts us in the Gospels.  The mystery of Jesus is the mystery of divine personality.” -James Stuart
